AI Game Mashups: The Best Clips So Far, and What Runs on a Mac

Minecraft in Elden Ring, skateboarding in Modern Warfare 2 and Spider-Man in Gotham: the best AI game mashup clips so far, with videos, and whether any of them run on a Mac.

For the last few weeks my feed has been full of games that should not exist. Minecraft blocks in the Lands Between. A skateboard in Modern Warfare 2. Spider-Man swinging over Gotham. They are AI game mashups: modders using coding models to pull two games apart and stitch them back together, then posting the result as a short clip.

The trend started around 19 September, when the modder chasm posted a Skate 3 project rewritten with AI, and it took off at the end of the month. Most of what you see is a video, not a download. A few mashups can be installed, almost all of them are Windows only, and none of them is a one-click install on a Mac yet.

Below are the clips worth watching, with links to the original videos, and a plain answer on whether any of it works on your Mac.

How these mashups are made

The common method is a "passthrough" mod. One game hosts the world, and the other supplies the character, movement or weapons, with both running at once and talking to each other. Modders describe what they want to an AI coding agent, test the build, and keep feeding back until it works. Claude based agents are the most cited tool, with OpenAI's Codex mentioned too. An open guide that several creators point to says an Elden Ring and Spider-Man merge took three to four hours, and that first results are usually rough.

That roughness shows. Reviewers who have tried the installable ones report broken terrain, invisible walls and enemies that ignore you. The clips are short for a reason.

Minecraft in Elden Ring, built on a Mac

The clip that broke out of the modding bubble came from artist Tobyn Jacobs on 29 September: Minecraft blocks, building and mobs inside Elden Ring. You can watch it on his YouTube channel: Minecraft In Elden Ring Mod. The original post is on X.

The detail that matters for this site: Jacobs built it on a Mac, and one of his clips is a phone recording of it running on a Mac laptop. He hasn't said exactly how he runs Elden Ring there. On a Mac, Elden Ring runs through CrossOver for single player only, because Easy Anti-Cheat does not run under CrossOver. The mod has not been released. Jacobs has said he would need to make a Windows version first, so any "download" you find for it on a random site is fake.

SkyCraft: Minecraft inside Skyrim Special Edition

chasm's SkyCraft puts Minecraft building into Skyrim Special Edition, and it is one of the few mashups you can install. It is on chasm's GitHub, it needs your own copies of both games, and it is Windows only. Reports say it wants about 3 GB of extra memory and that Skyrim's scripted opening can leave you stuck. chasm's video on the trend, The Next Generation of Modding, is the best overview of what these mods look like in motion.

Skateboarding in Modern Warfare 2

This is the clip that started the wave on X. On 27 September chasm posted Skate style boarding inside the 2009 Modern Warfare 2, with the caption "AI HACKERS HAVE PUT SKATEBOARDING IN CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2." See the original post and chasm's follow up video, Is this the Future of Gaming?.

The skate mod has a public release that needs your own Steam copy of Modern Warfare 2. On a Mac, the 2009 game itself runs through Parallels or CrossOver according to our data, but nobody has reported running the mod that way, so treat it as untested.

ArkWeb: Spider-Man swinging through Arkham Knight's Gotham

Luki's ArkWeb drops Insomniac's Spider-Man into Batman: Arkham Knight, and it looks the most finished of the lot. The web swinging works over Gotham's rooftops. Watch ARKWEB: Batman Arkham Knight passthrough Spider-Man mod, or the original X post.

The source code is public, but you have to build it yourself, it needs a controller, and it only works with one specific version of the Spider-Man game. On a Mac, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered runs through CrossOver, but a two game passthrough inside CrossOver is a different problem, and nobody has shown it working.

Escape from Tarkov guns in Skyrim

On 30 September the modder cydonix posted Tarkov weapons in Skyrim, then followed it with more guns and a Spider-Man in Skyrim clip. The original post is worth a look for how well the weapon handling translates. It has not been released.

It is also a good reminder of the limits. Escape from Tarkov itself cannot be played on a Mac at all: its BattlEye anti-cheat blocks online raids under CrossOver and Parallels, and none of the main streaming services carry it. A mod that borrows its guns is the closest a Mac owner will get for now.

World of Warcraft meets Call of Duty: World at War

P.E. Cooper's clip mixes World of Warcraft into Call of Duty: World at War, and it is one of the stranger ones to watch. The original post did the rounds alongside the Skyrim and Spider-Man clips at the start of October. Like most of these, it is a video only.

Modern Warfare 2 weapons in Minecraft

The newest clip on this list, from 7 October, flips the Modern Warfare idea around and puts the 2009 game's weapons into Minecraft. It was posted by MotionViz on X. There is nothing to download yet.

Melty wants to make this one click

On 4 October a Y Combinator backed company, Stella Montis, launched Melty, a free launcher that combines PC games you already own into ready made mashups. It handles the downloads and setup, has invite links for multiplayer, and launched with mashups including SkyCraft, Elden Craft, Super Mario Ring, Skate Warfare, Portal Life and Spartan Warfare. It also gives creators a workflow for AI coding agents.

It is Windows only. There is no Mac version and no announced plan for one. Melty says it checks uploads for dangerous files, but that is the company's own claim, and a launcher that rewrites your game installs is still third party code with a lot of access to your machine.

The catches: copyright, anti-cheat and fake downloads

Not every clip survives. On 3 October Deltaroo3D posted Super Mario 64 merged with Elden Ring, and the post was disabled after a copyright claim. IGN's coverage points out that these mods use code, models and art that the people making them don't have the rights to, and Nexus Mods' policy discourages AI tools unless you have permission for every asset. Expect more takedowns.

Two practical rules if you try any of them. First, keep modded games offline. Several of these games use anti-cheat online, and a modified install is the fastest way to lose an account. Second, only download from the creator's own GitHub release. Search results for these mashups are already full of sites offering "downloads" for mods that have never been released.

Can you play any of this on a Mac?

Not easily, and not yet. Every installable mashup on this list is built for Windows, and Melty is Windows only. To run one on a Mac you would need both games and the mod's tooling working together inside CrossOver, and nobody has published a working setup for any of them. The one bright spot is Jacobs' Elden Ring build, which shows it can run on a Mac, but it is unreleased.

My advice is to enjoy the videos and wait. If a creator ships a Mac build, or Melty comes to macOS, the Minecraft side is easy: Minecraft Java Edition runs natively on Apple Silicon. When that happens, check the other game on My Mac first, because the mashup can only run as well as the Windows game underneath it.
