Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Vampire®: The Masquerade-Bloodlines™ delivers a new type of RPG experience-one that blends all the core elements of a traditional RPG with the graphical richness, immediacy and brutal combat of a first-person action game. The game plunges players into the dark and gritty vampire underworld of modern-day L.A. as a creature of the night.

While there is no native Mac build, the game is highly playable via CrossOver or Parallels provided the community-made Unofficial Patch is installed.

What the world thinks

  1. Install the Unofficial Patch: This is MANDATORY. The vanilla game is notoriously buggy and often refuses to launch on modern systems. Download the latest version of the 'Unofficial Patch' by Wesp5 from ModDB.
  2. Create a Bottle: In CrossOver, create a new Windows 10 64-bit bottle.
  3. Install Essentials: Install DirectX for Games and the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables into the bottle.
  4. Install the Game: Run the installer for your GOG or Steam version of the game inside the bottle.
  5. Apply Patch: Run the Unofficial Patch executable, pointing it to your game folder. Ensure you check the 'Plus' components if you want restored content.
  6. Toggle Settings: In the CrossOver sidebar, ensure D3DMetal (GPTK) is toggled ON. In the game's launch options, add -game Unofficial_Patch to ensure the patch loads.

Parallels Desktop:

If you already use Parallels for work, Bloodlines runs well here because it is an older title. Performance is lower than CrossOver due to virtualization overhead, but because the game's requirements are so low, it still hits 60+ FPS easily. The Unofficial Patch is still required to prevent crashing at startup.

Best way to play it on Mac

While there is no native Mac build, the game is highly playable via CrossOver or Parallels provided the community-made Unofficial Patch is installed.
