Heroes of Might and Magic III
The most popular Heroes® title of all time is back in HD! Fifteen years later, rediscover the epic tale of Queen Catherine Ironfist, as she re-embarks on her critically acclaimed quest to unite her ravaged homeland and re-conquer the kingdom of Erathia.
While there is no native Apple Silicon port, the game runs flawlessly through CrossOver or Porting Kit, especially when paired with the community HD Mod for modern resolutions.
What the world thinks
The Steam HD version is missing the expansions and is generally considered inferior. Use the GOG version for the full experience.
- Install CrossOver: Download and install CrossOver Mac.
- Create Bottle: Search for 'Heroes of Might and Magic III' in the install menu. Choose the 'GOG.com' version. CrossOver will handle the dependencies like GDI+ and DirectX automatically.
- Install HD Mod (Crucial): Download the unofficial 'HoMM3 HD Mod' from the official developer site. Run the installer inside the same CrossOver bottle. This adds high-resolution support (1080p+) and essential UI fixes.
- Optional (HotA): Install the 'Horn of the Abyss' expansion into the same folder for the modern competitive standard of the game.
